About the position

DARCARS Automotive Group is seeking an experienced Automotive Controller to oversee the central accounting office and dealership office personnel. This position is critical in ensuring the financial health of the dealership, requiring a candidate with strong decision-making abilities, outstanding communication skills, and in-depth accounting and financial acumen. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading and motivating a team, as well as experience collaborating with various members and functions within an organization. The Automotive Controller will be responsible for regularly reporting the financial condition of the dealership to the General Manager and corporate headquarters, summarizing sales and expense analysis to identify potential problem areas and opportunities for improved profitability. This role also involves interpreting financial statements and daily operating reports, providing timely reviews of the dealership's financial status, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition to financial oversight, the Automotive Controller will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising accounting office personnel, reinforcing company policies, and maintaining proper internal controls. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, as the controller will review the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure accurate bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable, and floor plan payable. The role may also involve other administrative and accounting duties as needed, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and adaptability in this position. Responsibilities

  • Regularly and accurately report the financial condition of the dealership to the General Manager and corporate headquarters.
  • Summarize sales and expense analysis to detect potential problem areas and opportunities for improved company profitability.
  • Provide management with timely reviews of dealership financial status and progress.
  • Interpret financial statements and daily operating reports, informing management of developing trends.
  • Hire, train, and supervise accounting office personnel.
  • Reinforce company policies and adhere to all company standards.
  • Maintain and inspect for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place.
  • Review the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable, and floor plan payable.
  • Schedule review and maintenance on a weekly basis.
  • Perform other administrative and accounting duties as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of Controller experience in an Automotive Dealership, or 4 or more years as an Assistant Controller in an Automotive Dealership Group.
  • In-depth experience in all areas of retail automotive accounting.
  • Strong communication, customer service, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with management team on financial analysis and expense control.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting is preferred; however, a degree is not required for the highly experienced candidate.
  • A stable and verifiable work history is a must.
  • Excel experience is a must.
