About the position

The Automotive General Manager will play a pivotal role in leading our dealership's operations, focusing on both sales and service teams to ensure the dealership's success. This position requires a seasoned professional with a robust background in the automotive industry, particularly in managing dealership operations. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a commitment to customer satisfaction, and a proven track record of achieving sales and service goals. The Automotive General Manager will be responsible for steering the dealership towards profitability while maintaining high standards of customer service and satisfaction. In this role, the Automotive General Manager will oversee all variable operations, including new and used vehicle sales, internet sales, finance management, and service drive sales. The GM will ensure that the sales team is equipped with comprehensive product knowledge and the necessary tools to excel in their roles. Monitoring customer satisfaction scores will be a critical aspect of this position, as the GM will analyze metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance the overall customer experience. Additionally, the Automotive General Manager will be tasked with recruiting, motivating, and evaluating sales personnel, fostering a high-performance culture within the dealership. Regular sales training sessions will be conducted to share best practices and ensure that both new and experienced sales representatives are continuously improving. The GM will also collaborate closely with the service team to maintain high-quality service standards and ensure a seamless transition for customers to the service department. Achieving forecasted goals for dealership and OEM sales, gross profit, and key expenses will be essential for the success of the dealership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and guide the sales team, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to excel.
  • Oversee variable operations, including new and used sales, internet sales, finance managers, and service drive sales, with a focus on maximizing profitability.
  • Maintain comprehensive product knowledge and ensure the sales team is well-informed about vehicle offerings.
  • Monitor and enhance customer satisfaction scores by analyzing metrics and identifying improvement areas.
  • Recruit, motivate, and evaluate sales personnel, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Conduct regular sales training sessions, sharing best practices with both new and experienced sales representatives.
  • Establish and manage delivery procedures, ensuring a smooth transition for customers to the service department.
  • Collaborate with the service team to maintain high-quality service standards and improve the overall customer experience.
  • Achieve forecasted goals for dealership and OEM sales, gross profit, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a General Sales Manager (GSM) or GM with responsibility for the variable and/or fixed operations of a successful dealership.
  • Proven history of building and training a successful sales team, achieving strong Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) scores, and delivering above-average departmental profits.
  • Strong background in building showroom and internet traffic, SEO and SEM, direct mail, and other traditional media.
  • Experience in used vehicle purchasing, merchandising, and marketing.
  • Expertise in supervising desk managers and improving Finance and Insurance (F&I) income through mentorship and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CDJR vehicles (5 years preferred).
  • Experience with Chevrolet vehicles (5 years preferred).
