About the position

The Automotive Mechanic position at the City of Coral Gables involves performing skilled preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, boats, and heavy equipment. The role requires diagnosing and fixing issues with both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, as well as emergency vehicles, under the supervision of an Automotive Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test vehicles to diagnose problems and perform repairs.
  • Participate in a wide variety of automotive maintenance and repairs from minor to major work.
  • Troubleshoot diesel and gasoline motors, transmissions, and brake systems.
  • Perform maintenance on electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair anti-lock brake systems and air conditioning systems.
  • Conduct front end and four wheel alignments.
  • Perform extensive electrical diagnosis and troubleshoot electrical problems using diagrams and schematics.
  • Repair and install automotive electrical components such as starters and generators.
  • Balance and install wheels and tires, and provide roadside assistance as needed.
  • Consult with the Automotive Coordinator regarding repair costs and technical assistance.
  • Deliver vehicles to outside vendors and retrieve them after service.
  • Interpret work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Abide by all safety regulations and use appropriate safety equipment.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles as assigned.
  • Complete other related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • ASE certification required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with CDL Class B certification (may be waived for up to 120 days).
  • Must furnish own tools and repair equipment.
  • Comparable training or experience may substitute for minimum education requirement.
