About the position

The Premier Collection, a growing multi-franchise auto group located in Westchester County, is seeking an experienced Automotive Office Manager/Assistant Controller to join our team. This position is crucial for managing the day-to-day accounting and administrative operations of our dealerships, ensuring that all transactions are recorded in compliance with the company's policies and procedures. As an Automotive Office Manager/Assistant Controller, you will take ownership of the quality and accuracy of your work, demonstrating proven leadership and coaching abilities. You will be responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structures, ensuring that all accounting records are accurate and complete. Your role will involve overseeing the accounting staff, preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting. You will also be tasked with reconciling balance sheet accounts, preparing sales tax returns, and participating in year-end close activities. Responsibilities

  • Help manage the day-to-day accounting and administrative operations of the dealerships to ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, maintaining accurate and complete accounting records.
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of manufacturer programs for assigned brands.
  • Oversee accounting staff, assist, train and coach where necessary.
  • Prepare/Review monthly Financial Statements and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare/Review monthly commissions for submission to payroll department.
  • Control all posted documents including vehicle sales, additions to inventory, expenses, commissions, etc.
  • Reconcile and review all balance sheet accounts regularly to ensure they are current and accurate; identify and rectify any outstanding items; prepare and maintain supporting schedules as needed.
  • Prepare sales tax returns and ensure timely submission of payment to appropriate agencies.
  • Participate in year-end close; providing all necessary schedules and documents as needed.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with department managers and assist where possible with any issues/concerns.
  • Attend and participate in monthly financial reviews and other meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of automotive administrative and accounting functions.
  • Management experience.
  • CDK experience.
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with strong follow-up abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional and dependable team-player.
