About the position

Gerber Collision & Glass is seeking an Automotive Plastic Repair Apprentice to join our team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals who are interested in starting a career in the automotive repair industry, specifically focusing on plastic repairs. The role requires no prior experience, as all necessary training will be provided through our advanced plastic and auto repair training program. This program is recognized as one of the best in the industry and aims to equip trainees with the skills needed to excel in the field. As an apprentice, you will participate in a comprehensive 8 to 10 week paid training program that includes both hands-on and online training. The initial phase of training will take place at a local Gerber shop, followed by a week at a regional training center. All travel expenses, including hotel accommodations, will be covered for regional trainees. Upon successful completion of the training, you will be certified as an entry-level Micro Repair Technician, where you will learn essential skills such as plastic repairs, repair planning, and the removal and installation of parts. Gerber Collision & Glass is committed to sustainability and aims to create a more eco-friendly future within the collision repair industry. After gaining experience as a Micro Technician, you may have the chance to advance into our Technician Development Program (TDP), which offers further training and the potential to earn a competitive salary of $100,000 or more based on performance. Responsibilities

  • Participate in a comprehensive training program to learn plastic repair techniques.
  • Assist in the disassembly and assembly of vehicles.
  • Perform plastic welding using specialized equipment.
  • Conduct repair assessments and tag parts appropriately.
  • Apply spray primer and texture to repaired areas.
  • Lift and handle plastic car parts as needed.
  • Use tools such as sanders, air tools, and hot air welders.
  • Enter job numbers and part images using a phone or tablet.
  • Identify imperfections in plastic and parts through visual and hand inspection.
  • Work collaboratively within a team and independently as required.

Requirements

  • No prior experience required; all training will be provided.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Motivation and attention to detail are important traits.
  • Basic understanding of automotive repair is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in car repair, plastic, or metal welding is a bonus.
  • Hands-on experience with tools or in a trade role is welcome.
