About the position

The position involves selling and leasing new and used vehicles at a dealership, meeting gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction standards. The role requires the individual to sell and deliver a minimum number of vehicles per month, write complete sales orders, and process paperwork according to dealership policies. The employee will utilize dealership sales control and follow-up systems, attend product and sales training courses, and maintain a prospect development system. The position emphasizes ethical and professional conduct, customer satisfaction, and knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing retail automobile sales.

Responsibilities

  • Sells and delivers a minimum number of vehicles per month.
  • Writes complete sales orders and processes paperwork in accordance with dealership policies.
  • Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up systems.
  • Attends product and sales training courses as requested by sales manager.
  • Keeps up-to-date on new products and services within the industry.
  • Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business.
  • Conducts business in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Assists customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully.
  • Explains product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.
  • Describes optional equipment available for customer purchase.
  • Offers test drives to all prospects.
  • Delivers vehicles to customers, ensuring understanding of vehicle features and paperwork.
  • Introduces customers to service department personnel.
  • Schedules first service appointment.
  • Follows up on all post-delivery items and special requests.
  • Reviews and analyzes actions to better utilize time and plans.
  • Maintains professional appearance.

Requirements

  • No prior experience or training required.
  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training.
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information.
  • Mathematical skills to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
