About the position

The Automotive Senior Technical Trainer is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering OEM technical instruction to mid-career to master-level automotive service technicians. This role involves teaching diagnostics, testing, troubleshooting, and repair procedures as per OEM standards, ensuring that all training materials and methodologies are current and effective. The trainer will also support junior trainers and oversee the training team, maintaining high standards of technical proficiency and course content relevance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current technical proficiency in all OEM brand-specific products and diagnostic strategies.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure all course documentation is current and relevant.
  • Develop the master training schedule and maintain accurate training records.
  • Set up classrooms, workshops, training vehicles, equipment, tools, and study guides prior to each block of instruction.
  • Reset classrooms, workshops, vehicles, and related tools and equipment at the conclusion of training.
  • Validate course material content and procedures through testing of workshop activities.
  • Alert the Project Manager and curriculum developer of any technical deficiencies in course content.
  • Update software associated with diagnostic equipment for compatibility with new vehicle models.
  • Maintain accurate product knowledge on training fleet vehicles and service bulletins.
  • Provide developmental support to junior to mid-level automotive technical trainers through co-teaching and assessments.
  • Assist the Project Manager with oversight of the training team staff and facilities.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of technical training experience at the automotive OEM technical training institution level.
  • 10 or more years of delivering OEM technician and/or body shop technical training.
  • 5 or more years leading an OEM technical training team or supervising a retailer/dealership service technician team.
  • 1 or more years of delivering OEM technical training in accordance with health safety laws and regulations.
  • Past or present OEM service technician and/or instructor certification.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Automotive Vocational Technical School Degree.
  • Bachelor's Degree (desired).
