About the position

The CTE - Auto Shop Teacher position at Douglas High School involves performing professional instructional work of moderate difficulty under the direction of site administration. The teacher will guide students toward gaining knowledge and skills to become productive citizens, create a conducive learning environment, and establish effective rapport with students. The role requires motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge while maintaining positive relationships with parents and other school staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated location and times.
  • Guide the learning process toward achieving established district curriculum goals.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to students' maturity, interests, and abilities.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of each student.
  • Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Identify differences in students' needs, abilities, and interests and provide appropriate instruction.
  • Assess students' accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.
  • Administer group standardized tests and proficiency tests.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Develop and maintain a code of conduct for the classroom.
  • Plan for and participate in professional improvement activities.
  • Establish and maintain two-way communication with parents, students, and staff.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Attend building and district meetings to promote communication among staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate issued by the State of Nevada.
  • Considerable knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies.
  • Skill to perform multiple complex tasks and adhere to safety practices.
  • Ability to develop lessons consistent with State Academic Content Standards.
