About the position

Draper is seeking an Autonomous System Integration and Test Engineer to join our team in Reston, VA. As an independent, nonprofit research and development company, Draper is dedicated to tackling significant national challenges through innovative solutions. The successful candidate will serve as the system integrator for various technologies and product lines developed using Draper's core capabilities. This role involves planning, executing, and managing integration and test (I&T) activities from early test concept development through system certification. Responsibilities include functional simulation, subsystem and system integration and testing, verification and validation (V&V), performance evaluation, and acceptance testing. The System I&T Engineer will leverage multi-disciplinary engineering expertise and collaborate with other Systems Engineers to establish clear, verifiable, and traceable requirements, inform and drive system concepts, architectures, and designs to promote testability, and utilize resident expertise and lessons learned to support the development of highly reliable, robust, and complex systems. In this position, the engineer will work on one or more project teams to develop, integrate, test, and demonstrate novel autonomous systems, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), guided parafoils, guided munitions, space systems, and ground robotics. The ideal candidate will balance depth in specific technical domains with a system-level understanding of the technology and sponsor's needs. A successful candidate will thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment and bridge gaps between subject matter experts in various technical domains while bringing subject matter experience in working with embedded processors, lower-level control, and communication solutions for these systems. Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Help define an I&T approach for a particular component / subsystem / system and independently execute plan.
  • Contribute high quality content for technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
  • Proactively identify needs and concerns associated with plan execution and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
  • Requires 3-5 years in Systems Engineering or relevant role.
