About the position

The Autonomous Vehicle Data Analyst Engineer position at Navistar, Inc. is a critical role within the Autonomous Vehicle field test group, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager Sr. This position involves active participation in the development and validation of Level 3 (L3) and Level 4 (L4) autonomous systems, focusing on over-the-road testing. The successful candidate will work closely with an AV safety driver in a team-oriented environment, ensuring that the vehicle is road-ready and equipped with the necessary data acquisition tools for effective testing. Located at Navistar's Advanced Technical Center in San Antonio, Texas, this role will also require regular support at the company's Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, Indiana, along with occasional business travel for training purposes. The Autonomous Vehicle Data Analyst Engineer will be responsible for documenting and analyzing driving events, uploading data, and collaborating with the AV development team to enhance the performance and safety of autonomous systems. This position is essential for ensuring that all testing missions are meticulously planned and executed, contributing to the overall success of Navistar's autonomous vehicle initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership of the test article and ensuring the vehicle's road readiness and data acquisition equipment for over-the-road testing.
  • Participating in daily testing of the AV systems with the AV safety driver.
  • Documenting, uploading data, and analyzing driving events with the AV development team.
  • Attending training on-site at OEM and Navistar test locations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Computer Science and will obtain the degree prior to the first day of employment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven organizational skills for planning and documentation of daily missions to safety drivers.
  • Prior powertrain calibration/data acquisition experience on mobile platforms in the automotive/commercial truck industry.
  • Excellent communication skills for reconstructing events during over-the-road testing, both in presentations and verbal communications.
  • Experience with uploading large data files, data analysis, and triaging fault codes in vehicles or other mobile platforms.
  • Experience and/or understanding of automotive/commercial platforms maintenance procedures.
  • Working knowledge of automotive/commercial truck powertrain platforms.
  • Working knowledge or experience with automotive/commercial truck ADAS systems.
  • Fluency in all Microsoft Office Applications; Excel, Word, PowerPoint for documentation and communications of trip planning and debriefing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment for prolonged periods of testing with AV safety drivers over the road.
