About the position

The Auxiliary Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all power plant equipment, including monitoring and controlling boilers, turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment. This role involves performing routine maintenance, conducting operational tests, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures under the supervision of the Working Foreman.

Responsibilities

  • Control, monitor, start, stop, regulate, and evaluate boilers, turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on power plant systems and components.
  • Observe, record, and interpret equipment readings outside of the control room.
  • Determine the need for and perform operational tests and adjustments as required.
  • Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, and unusual events, providing analyses and recommendations.
  • Conduct switching and tagging and housekeeping duties as required.
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment.
  • Monitor plant security utilizing provided systems.
  • Ensure proper Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and other safety protocols are followed.
  • Support maintenance and operations activities, including testing and maintenance of systems and equipment.
  • Complete preventive maintenance work orders as needed.
  • Report directly to the Working Foreman and seek guidance on assigned duties.
  • Effectively communicate with supervision and fellow personnel regarding plant equipment conditions and performance.

Requirements

  • Mechanical knowledge and experience in power plant operations.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and operational tests on equipment.
  • Strong communication skills for effective reporting and teamwork.
  • Understanding of safety procedures, including Lock-out/Tag-out protocols.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Familiarity with power plant security systems.
