About the position

The AV IT Engineer I at Dartmouth College is responsible for implementing and maintaining audiovisual IT solutions that enhance teaching, learning, and collaboration across the institution. This role involves working closely with clients and campus partners to deliver effective AV solutions that align with Dartmouth's mission, providing technical expertise and support to ensure efficient delivery of AV IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer and implement advanced audiovisual IT projects that align with Dartmouth's strategic goals.
  • Lead the design and delivery of AV systems, from detailed schematics to seamless system integration.
  • Oversee R&D programs, transitioning innovative ideas from concept to production in alignment with the AV engineering roadmap.
  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including campus partners and vendors, to ensure that AV solutions meet the highest standards of quality and functionality.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring all AV projects are completed within scope and exceed expectations.
  • Consult with clients to understand AV needs and advise on AV usage.
  • Provide Tier 2 support according to service level agreements.
  • Maintain systems, equipment, and firmware updates proactively.
  • Support and improve AV system monitoring, alerts, and automations.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of AV standards, guidelines, processes, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain AV IT knowledge materials.
  • Mentor and train Integration Technicians and AV support consultants on AV IT systems and solutions.
  • Oversee the installation and setup of AV systems, ensuring proper functionality, performance, and alignment with design standards.
  • Program and configure AV control systems to provide intuitive user interfaces and seamless operation.
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance checks to identify and address technical issues before deployment.
  • Work with the AV D&E team to identify equipment, ensure appropriate inventory levels, and manage all inventory in compliance with Dartmouth policy.
  • Engineer AV systems in alignment with Dartmouth strategy and designs, providing expertise to campus partners and clients.
  • Develop detailed AV system designs, schematics, and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with Dartmouth design standards.
  • Independently implement AV systems at scale, using endpoint management tools to support AV computers and devices.
  • Administer Dartmouth AV IT solutions and collaborate with network teams to ensure security and optimal performance.
  • Mentor and train Integration Technicians and AV support consultants on AV IT systems and solutions.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of proven experience in AV system design, implementation, and management within an educational or similar complex environment.
  • Strong technical proficiency in AV control systems such as Crestron, AMX, or Extron.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT network systems and the ability to integrate AV over IP.
  • Robust project management skills and experience with IT project management methodologies.
  • A proactive leader who mentors and enhances team capabilities while managing detailed, technical projects.
  • Associate's degree with 1-3 or more years of relevant work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of audiovisual technologies, including AV control systems, projectors, displays, audio systems, and video conferencing solutions.
  • Experience in AV control system programming (e.g., Crestron) and network integration.
  • Proficiency in IT networks.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design programs (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology landscapes and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Familiarity with AV project phases and timelines.
  • Experience with endpoint management concepts and tools.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 50 lbs., climb ladders, navigate tight spaces, and use power tools.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, technical teams, and clients, as well as problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities for integrated AV systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced certifications in AV technologies (e.g., QSC Level II, Dante Level III, AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I).
  • In-depth knowledge of audio DSP, system configuration programming, and familiarity with educational technology trends.
  • Experience with ITSM tools and methodologies and programming in multiple languages.
