About the position

The AV Systems Design Engineer at Applied Video Technology, Inc. is responsible for providing both pre-sales and post-sales support throughout the project lifecycle. This role involves designing, engineering, and ensuring the quality control of audiovisual systems, collaborating closely with sales and engineering teams to create comprehensive design documentation and specifications. The engineer will also mentor junior staff, conduct client meetings, and stay updated on new technologies to enhance AV solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales support to Sales Engineering and Operations departments.
  • Design, engineer, and ensure quality control of AV projects.
  • Collaborate with Sales Design Engineer for project accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in pre-sale discussions and project turn-in meetings.
  • Create audio, video, control signal flow, and elevation drawings adhering to AVT standards.
  • Review CAD and Visio packages for accuracy and make necessary changes.
  • Compile a list of MIPS products and cables for accurate product ordering.
  • Attend design/project meetings and departmental meetings as required.
  • Assist with creation of change orders during project implementation.
  • Support the closing out of AV installations with Field Engineer and Project Manager.
  • Research new products and technologies for innovative AV designs.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to junior employees.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement in services provided.
  • Conduct customer-facing meetings and presentations.
  • Perform needs analysis for AV systems.
  • Participate in sales calls and team-based presentations for new products.
  • Direct, review, and approve project design changes as necessary.
  • Consult with clients to prepare project specifications and system designs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the audio-visual field in a design capacity role.
  • Working knowledge of Visio and AutoCAD software.
  • Strong math aptitude and logical analysis skills.
  • Thorough signal flow skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
  • Ability to problem solve independently with urgency.
  • Excellent PC skills including Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with multi-tasking abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Avixa accredited CTS certification; CTS-D is a plus.
