About the position

The Aviation and Drone Technologies Instructor will provide competency-based instruction in the Aviation program. This role involves designing, developing, and upgrading curriculum to meet current industry needs and standards, networking with related industry and educational partners, maintaining an active and productive local advisory committee, assisting students in job preparation and placement activities, and coordinating and advising students in Francis Tuttle career and technology student organizations. The instructor is expected to embrace the Francis Tuttle Culture as reflected in the Mission and Vision statements, and continually portray the Core Values: Service, Trust, Aspiration, Respect, and Responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Teach knowledge, attitudes, and skills relating to identified Aviation & Drone Technologies career training objectives indicated by third party industry certifications and current skill sets required by business and industry partners.
  • Teach fundamentals of general aviation maintenance with a focus on airframe structures and structural components, both metal and composite.
  • Develop and create innovative class projects that may require detailed measuring and calculations.
  • Teach theoretical aircraft maintenance and aircraft familiarization typically found under the A&P General section.
  • Ensure that the Aviation program remains in compliance with requirements of all partnering agencies and/or organizations.
  • Develop and maintain a competency/performance-based curriculum in accordance with sound curriculum design and pedagogical strategies.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, presentation, and instructional techniques.
  • Recruit and maintain an active and functional advisory committee comprised of local business, industry, and education partners.
  • Foster opportunities for students to transition from school to work through internships, job shadowing, and relevant practicum and capstone experiences.
  • Maintain a positive learning climate where student engagement, innovation, quality work, and self-improvement are fostered and practiced.
  • Advise and promote leadership and skills development for all students through active participation in student organizations such as Skills-USA.
  • Manage classroom/lab, maintain official student records, reports, grades, inventory, program budget, and software/hardware configuration.
  • Participate in recruiting events within the community and sending high schools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum qualifications are five years of relevant employment with an emphasis in Aviation, Sheet Metal fabrication, Composites fabrication and/or Drones.
  • Airframe & Powerplant licensed preferred.
  • Possess or obtain an applicable Oklahoma Teacher Certification.
  • Ability to teach fundamentals of general aviation maintenance with focus on airframe structures and structural components, both metal & composite.
  • Ability to use a variety of Aviation & Drone Technologies equipment such as sheet metal cutting tools, rivet guns, drill motors, shears, precision measuring tools, curing oven, vacuum debulking equipment thermocouple monitoring.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft office components (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to consistently deliver superior customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Strong flexibility, time management, and organizational skills.
