About the position

The Aviation Civil Engineer at HDR, Inc. is responsible for designing and planning civil engineering projects related to airfields. This role involves collaboration with multi-discipline teams, preparation of technical documents, and oversight of junior staff. The engineer will also serve as a technical expert and participate in client meetings, ensuring quality and adherence to FAA standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan production for general civil on a variety of airfield projects, including site layouts, grading, drainage, and paving.
• Act as the Task Lead/Design Lead as appropriate.
• Collaborate with multi-discipline architectural/engineering teams on aviation projects across multiple regions.
• Contribute to and participate in client and design review meetings.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and contract documents.
• Assist with conducting quantity calculations and construction cost estimates.
• Perform moderately complex assignments using standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Effectively communicate project issues with clients, contractors, and suppliers/vendors.
• Serve and/or grow as a technical expert in an area of specialization.
• Assist with construction administration and management duties as needed.
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.
• Plan, organize, and supervise the work of junior staff and technicians.

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering
• 7 years of professional experience
• PE license
• Knowledge and experience with FAA Advisory Circulars, airfield design, and construction specifications
• Proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D, MS Office, and Bluebeam
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to quality and consistency
