About the position

The Aviation Enforcement Officer position within the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS) involves assisting the Senior Aviation Enforcement Officer on flights that transport federal prisoners and detainees. This role requires extensive travel and the ability to manage the security and transportation of individuals in custody, ensuring their safety and compliance with regulations during flights across the continental United States and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Aviation Enforcement Officer on JPATS flights.
• Escort and transport prisoners and detainees onboard JPATS aircraft.
• Conduct searches of prisoners and detainees for prohibited items.
• Secure prisoners and detainees with appropriate restraints.
• Attend pre-flight briefings and coordinate with law enforcement personnel.
• Oversee the work of contract Aviation Security Officers assigned to JPATS flights.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Must pass a pre-employment security investigation and drug screening.
• Must maintain proficiency in the use of firearms and less than lethal devices.
• Must successfully complete a rigorous enforcement officer basic training program at FLETC.
• Must attend and pass yearly certification in aviation safety and survival training.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in detention, corrections, or law enforcement.
• Graduate education in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Law.
