About the position

We are seeking a full-time Aviation Field Service Engineer in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for becoming highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin avionic products and providing technical support on Garmin products to customers and distributors. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service and technical expertise in avionics systems. You will be the primary point of contact for customers and installers, addressing their technical inquiries and ensuring they receive the support they need to effectively use Garmin products. As an Aviation Field Service Engineer, you will answer customer and installer technical inquiries regarding Garmin products via telephone, letter, fax, and e-mail. You will also arrange for the return of customer equipment for factory repair and manage the exchange of out-of-box failures of Garmin equipment. Acting as a liaison between customers and associates of other departments within Garmin, you will monitor, document, and report failure trends in Garmin equipment, identifying and recommending improvements in Garmin products, documentation, and procedures. Additionally, you will review special circumstances and authorize warranty service when deemed appropriate, ensuring that all pilot's guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals are complete, technically accurate, and clear to avoid misinterpretation. This role requires the ability to be on a rotation for 24/7 aviation technical support coverage, which is essential for providing timely assistance to customers in need. The ideal candidate will possess a strong customer-oriented attitude, broad knowledge of aircraft systems and avionic sub-systems, and proficiency in using personal computers and Microsoft Office. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot to the LRU level and repair various avionic systems, all while maintaining a positive, detail-oriented, organized, and proactive approach in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Answer customer and installer technical inquiries regarding Garmin products via telephone, letter, fax, and e-mail.
  • Arrange for return for factory repair of customer equipment and arrange for exchange of out-of-box failures of Garmin equipment.
  • Act as liaison between customer and associates of other departments within Garmin.
  • Monitor, document, and report failure trends in Garmin equipment and identify/recommend improvements in Garmin products, documentation, and procedures.
  • Review special circumstances and authorize warranty service when deemed appropriate.
  • Review pilot's guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness, technical accuracy, and areas likely to be misinterpreted.
  • Ability to be on a rotation for 24/7 aviation technical support coverage.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent military/trade school OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in avionics installation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work across functional and organizational lines.
  • Superior customer-oriented attitude.
  • Broad knowledge of aircraft systems and avionic sub-systems.
  • Proficiency using personal computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to troubleshoot to the LRU level and repair various avionic systems.
  • Positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented, and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and be proactive in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous avionics experience in an aircraft maintenance facility and/or an aircraft manufacturing environment.
  • Pilot's License.
  • Experience troubleshooting and installing Garmin avionics systems.
