About the position

As an Aviation Maintenance Technician - Machinist at American Airlines, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of our aircraft. This position involves a variety of technical functions, including servicing aircraft through mechanical work such as dismantling, overhauling, repairing, and assembling various components to maintain airworthiness. You will conduct scheduled maintenance inspections and certify the quality of your workmanship in accordance with maintenance manuals and references. Your responsibilities will also include connecting and removing ground power units, towing aircraft, and performing guideman functions. In addition to technical tasks, you will be expected to perform inspections in extreme environmental conditions, which may include extreme heat, cold, rain, sleet, and snow. Safety is paramount, and you will need to maintain general safety awareness while working in areas with moving vehicles and using personal protective equipment when necessary. You will also be responsible for signing mechanical flight releases, maintaining knowledge of manuals and supply catalogs, and ensuring that all work-related paperwork is completed accurately. This position requires flexibility, as you will need to report to your assigned station on time, adhere to safety procedures, and complete job-relevant training. You will work closely with other employees and stakeholders to accomplish tasks and will be expected to wear uniforms as required by company policy. Responsibilities

  • Service aircraft, including mechanical work involved in dismantling, overhauling, repairing, and assembling parts to maintain airworthiness.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance inspections.
  • Certify the quality of own workmanship according to maintenance manuals and references.
  • Connect and remove ground power and ground start units.
  • Push out and tow aircraft, performing guideman functions.
  • Perform inspections in extreme environmental conditions.
  • Maintain general safety awareness while working in areas with moving vehicles.
  • Use personal protective equipment as required for safety.
  • Sign mechanical flight releases and/or airworthiness releases.
  • Maintain knowledge of and use manuals, supply/parts catalogs, and general maintenance manuals.
  • Ensure forms, records, reports, and other work-related paperwork are completed properly.
  • Perform Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walks and clean work areas.
  • Request parts as needed.
  • Report to position on time, as scheduled, including varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Complete job-relevant trainings and adhere to government regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate with other employees and stakeholders to accomplish work tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Verifiable, hands-on experience in the repair, maintenance, overhaul, or manufacture of aircraft.
  • 24 months on aircraft with a gross weight of 70,000 lbs or engines with 15,000 lbs or more of thrust, or 48 months on aircraft with gross weight between 12,500 lbs & 70,000 lbs or engines with 5,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs of thrust.
  • Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License, with license number and date of issue provided during application process.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and days-off.
  • Must fulfill FAA criminal background checks for unescorted access privileges to airport security areas.
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges.
  • Subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing.
