About the position

We are seeking a full-time Aeronautical Data Analyst 1 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for the attribution, processing, and maintenance of aeronautical data and participating in the evaluation of aeronautical data and execution of Quality Assurance processes on aeronautical data. You will edit, manipulate, and maintain aeronautical data using custom and third-party software, ensuring the application of appropriate aeronautical specifications to the data and products. Additionally, you will help evaluate and process database updates according to established methodology, identify and resolve basic issues or risks using proper aeronautical data capture techniques, and conduct testing and evaluation of Garmin aeronautical data products. Your responsibilities will also include performing established operations for quality assurance and executing tasks as directed by your Team Leader or mentor. You will need to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of Garmin's Aeronautical Data development process and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve goals. You will be expected to contribute and suggest ideas on continuous improvement freely and positively, while also maintaining thorough documentation of your work in an organized manner. Furthermore, you will need to recognize and process multiple source types, translating and culminating necessary information for tasks within a standard framework, and incorporate field knowledge within documented standards to identify and creatively solve problems. In the Data Collection Team, you will input or update, perform a quality control process on, and maintain the features in the National Airspace System Resources (NASR) database. You will maintain a working knowledge of the functionality of the National Airspace System (NAS), including its direct correlation in support of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and on-board Flight Management Systems (FMS). In the Production Team, you will acquire and maintain DO-200A associate qualifications and training requirements, insert, update, and delete records in AeroNavData's DO-200A qualified database, and process aeronautical source from the Standard and Non-Standard Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs). You will also interface with NFDC and AeroNav Products associates and Civil Aviation Authorities when directed, and use and understand database queries written for our Microsoft SQL Server database using SQL.

  • Maintain/utilize knowledge of industry standards as basis for accurate and dependable data input and manipulation
  • Input or update, perform a QC process on, and maintain the features in the National Airspace System Resources (NASR) database
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the functionality of the National Airspace System (NAS)
  • Acquire/maintain DO-200A associate qualifications according to applicable sections of the Personnel Qualification Manual
  • Insert, update, and delete records in AeroNavData's DO-200A qualified database
  • Process aeronautical source from the Standard and Non-Standard Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs) listed in the Data Source Manual
  • Use and understand database queries written for our Microsoft SQL Server database using SQL

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in aviation OR private pilot rating OR minimum of 1 year experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrate a basic working knowledge and understanding of aeronautical charting principles relevant to GARMIN's business needs
  • Demonstrates industry standards knowledge
  • Demonstrate great typing skills, familiarity and proficiency with PC applications and Windows Operating System (OS)
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and technical communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work and thrive in a technical environment
  • Demonstrate ability to complete well defined basic tasks

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience as a TERPS Specialist or aeronautical information specialist
  • Private pilot license with instrument rating
  • Demonstrate an understanding of instrument flight rules, instrument procedures, and the United States National Airspace System
  • Database skills and SQL knowledge
  • Familiarity with Cartography, GIS principles and methodologies
  • Bilingual skills
