About the position

The Aviation Safety Coordinator at Southern Airways Corporation plays a crucial role in enhancing and maintaining the safety management systems within the airline. This position involves collaborating with various departments to ensure compliance with safety regulations, conducting investigations, and providing training on safety protocols. The coordinator will also analyze safety data and trends, report findings to senior leadership, and assist in the development of safety manuals and bulletins. This role is essential for promoting a culture of safety and ensuring the well-being of passengers and staff alike.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Aviation Safety Manager in integrating, implementing, and maintaining Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Provide assistance in setting up web-based safety reporting tool and train operational groups on usability.
  • Process safety concern reports and incident reports from all departments.
  • Guide front-line personnel on filing incident reports and safety concern reports.
  • Conduct investigations in collaboration with the Aviation Safety Manager.
  • Co-facilitate Safety concern reporting meetings on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.
  • Receive safety concerns reported via the Safety Hotline.
  • Maintain company manuals such as Safety Department manual, SMS manual, and Emergency Response Manual (ERP).
  • Co-facilitate Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) for operational departments.
  • Measure and report effectiveness of risk controls established by the company.
  • Perform data analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis to present to senior leadership.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the regulator on safety requests.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of safety bulletins and newsletters.
  • Provide Safety and SMS training to all employees and the leadership team.
  • Process Fatigue reports filed by pilots and co-facilitate Fatigue Risk Committee meetings.
  • Travel to bases and serviced destinations for investigations and safety audits as needed.

Requirements

  • Intermediate data analysis, statistical analysis, and trend analysis skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and their applicability to Part 135 operations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of aviation safety, SMS, risk assessments, and 'Just Culture'.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and multitask.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Aviation, Aeronautics, Aviation Management, or a similar field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an Aviation Safety position within Part 135 or Part 121 operations or related aviation organization.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
