About the position

The Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) position is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of air carriers, aircraft, airmen, and air agencies. This role involves technical administration, certification, and surveillance of airworthiness programs, requiring a thorough understanding of federal aviation regulations and the ability to conduct inspections, investigations, and enforce compliance. The inspector will work closely with various stakeholders, including air carrier management and regulatory bodies, to maintain high safety standards in aviation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure assigned organization is properly organized, staffed, and equipped.
  • Establish and conduct training programs and maintain record-keeping systems.
  • Chair joint FAA and industry meetings and maintain regular contact with assigned organizations.
  • Direct correction of deficiencies and discrepancies, refusing approval if unresolved.
  • Develop maintenance program requirements through participation on maintenance review boards.
  • Coordinate minimum equipment list (MEL) approvals with the principal operations inspector.
  • Conduct enforcement investigations and prepare final reports and recommendations.
  • Supervise emergency suspension of certificates or cancellation of operations specifications.
  • Investigate public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents.
  • Monitor airworthiness operations, including maintenance, engineering, and training programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and registered with Selective Service if applicable.
  • Valid State driver's license and fluency in English required.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must meet medical requirements, including good vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 pounds.
  • FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 grade level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a repair station or airline repair facility.
  • Knowledge of federal aviation regulations and compliance standards.
