About the position

The Principal Avionics Inspector (PAI) serves as an ASI (GAV) for the Denver FSDO, primarily responsible for overseeing complex aviation organizations and ensuring compliance with FAA regulations. The PAI operates with substantial technical independence, planning and executing programs, projects, and studies while providing policy assistance to field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs). The role involves evaluating and deciding on proposals for changes in authorized programs, monitoring organizational activities, and ensuring adherence to safety practices. The PAI also engages with top management of aviation corporations to negotiate and resolve issues, applying a mastery knowledge level of aviation safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, design, and carry out programs and projects.
  • Provide policy assistance to field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors on complex policy interpretations.
  • Issue certificates to and monitor large and complex aviation organizations.
  • Evaluate and decide upon proposals to change authorized programs.
  • Continuously monitor activities of organizations for compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in certification inspections and surveillance of air carrier operations.
  • Develop plans, techniques, and policies to address technical issues.
  • Negotiate with carrier management and make technical determinations.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50.
  • Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Physical ability to perform duties safely and efficiently.
  • Good distant vision and ability to hear conversational voice.
  • Possess a valid second-class medical certificate if required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of avionics systems.
  • Experience in a repair station, air carrier repair facility, or military repair facility.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to the FV-H/FG-12 level.
