About the position

The AVID Tutor position at Edina Public Schools is a part-time, temporary role focused on supporting middle school students enrolled in the AVID elective program. Tutors will work under the supervision of an AVID teacher, utilizing AVID learning strategies to facilitate and coach students in a digital setting. The role emphasizes creating a caring and inclusive environment that fosters student engagement and academic success.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of middle school AVID elective students.
• Utilize AVID learning strategies to facilitate student learning.
• Attend training sessions as required.
• Communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Perceive students' needs and develop positive relationships.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Demonstrate patience and quick thinking in response to student needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in post-secondary education or have two years of post-secondary education preferred.
• Interest in working with a student population.
• Ability to effectively communicate with students and staff.
• Ability to perceive students' needs and develop positive relationships.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to think and respond quickly while demonstrating patience.
• Ability to use a computer to access shared Google files and facilitate Google Meets.
• Access to internet and use of a Chromebook or laptop with networking capabilities preferred.
