The Boeing Company is looking for an AvionX Hardware Electrical Lead Engineer - Embedded System Design located in Plano, TX. This position is focused on the organization's current efforts around embedded hardware development. A successful candidate will need to be able to provide technical guidance and accountability to the engineering teams and assist with troubleshooting as needed. They will need to lead the team through the development of test procedures/test scripts, help direct test script integration, and help ensure the finalized testing will satisfy the requirements. The selected candidate will have prior experience in requirements review/development, architectural/conceptual design, simulation/analysis, schematic capture/layout, rapid prototyping, board bring-up, design verification testing, EMI/EMC qualification testing, and system integration of complex designs. This position is expected to be 100% onsite at the Plano location. This position must meet export control compliance requirements, and a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.

Responsibilities

  • Leads analysis of customer and system requirements and development of architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various electronic products.
  • Leads development of high-level and detailed designs consistent with requirements and specifications.
  • Leads reviews of testing and analysis activity to assure compliance to requirements.
  • Identifies, tracks and statuses technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Leads activities in support of Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services.
  • Coordinates engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product.
  • Plans research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Performs Trade Studies/Modeling (reliability and thermal).
  • Designs computer hardware and software components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces, high order languages), and models results (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).
  • Selection of components to be used in Avionics Electronics Designs.
  • Solves problems concerning fielded hardware and software.
  • Develops automated test stations, test scripting, and specialized test equipment.
  • Use technical knowledge to help influence decisions over multiple teams and products.
  • Provide technical guidance and accountability to the engineering teams and assist with troubleshooting as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 10+ years of experience in development embedded hardware.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Engineering/Technical degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical/electronic engineering, systems engineering, or software engineering).
  • Experience managing/leading engineering projects.
  • Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience leading multi-discipline design teams or a special project team.
  • Experience in multiple focused areas: analog/digital circuits, gimbal design/control, power supply and distribution, firmware/FPGA, LabView, control systems, RF theory, Electro Magnetic Compatibility.
  • Experience of Printed Wiring Board (PWB) design processes using Mentor Graphics Xpedition.
  • Experience of a broad range of hardware types including RF assemblies, antennas, power supplies (AC/DC), FPGAs, digital signal processors, and embedded architectures.
  • Experience of antennas, wave guides, gimbals, filters, complex electronics, RF signal processing, RF amplifiers, RF transceivers, Intermediate Frequency Processing, and/or serial rapid Input/Output (I/O) interfaces (SRIO).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with global teams and collaborate across geographic locations.
