About the position

The Avionics Engineer will apply engineering principles and knowledge of avionics systems to enhance the performance and sustainability of Air Force and joint service weapon systems. This role involves supporting the definition, development, integration, and verification of avionics subsystems, ensuring compliance with various requirements and standards, and assisting in the technical evaluation of systems and equipment for deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering principles to improve weapon systems.
  • Support avionics subsystem definition, development, integration, and verification methods.
  • Assist in Aircraft Information Management Systems (AIMS) requirements and testing.
  • Define requirements and support testing and certification of CNS/ATM systems.
  • Conduct systems analyses for avionics system design and feasibility assessments.
  • Attend technical reviews and provide advice on hardware and software installation.
  • Review program-specific databases and perform assessments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in controls, displays, and data bus development for airborne vehicles.
  • Review technical documents for compliance with specifications and airworthiness.
  • Support technical interchange meetings regarding controls and displays updates.
  • Assist in developing requirements for future equipment upgrades.
  • Translate user requirements into weapons system requirements for design and testing.
  • Support the production of technical evaluations, engineering studies, and acquisition strategies.
  • Assist in project team meetings and technical reviews as needed.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies and recommend corrections.
  • Assist in engineering evaluations of contractor recommendations for operational issues.
  • Support the development of engineering cost estimates and schedules.
  • Perform advisory roles for program contractor source selections on engineering requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring OSS&E compliance for all products.
  • Participate in value stream mapping and AFSO21 program facilitation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an ABET accredited engineering discipline.
  • Fifteen years of experience in the respective technical discipline, with five years in the DoD.
  • Knowledge of avionics engineering and subsystem development.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.
