About the position

The Avionics Integration Technician Sr. role at Blue Origin involves working as part of a dedicated team to build human-rated Lunar Landers for the MK1 and MK2 Lunar Lander Program. This hands-on position requires technical expertise and a commitment to quality, focusing on the assembly and integration of aerospace systems. The role emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and a passion for safe human spaceflight, contributing to the company's mission of enabling millions to live and work in space.

Responsibilities

  • Setup new production work areas, including tooling and equipment.
  • Assist with transition from development to production, including first articles.
  • Perform second party verifications and hardware inspections to engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct malfunctions by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurrence control.
  • Operate various material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, and other ground support equipment as required.
  • Setup and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, height gauges and optical measuring instruments.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance functions such as daily clean-up of work areas to support 5S, FOD, and ESD.
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in aerospace or related fields
  • Excellent demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate differing opinions in a collaborative environment without conflict among other team members
  • Ability to use standard mechanical tools, fabrication shop equipment and the capability to drill and prepare close tolerance holes for fastener installation is required
  • A&P license or equivalent experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly and integration
  • Knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD tools to view models for assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and standards
  • Ability to support Fri-Sun 6pm-6:30am and additional weekday overtime as requested
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15+ years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly and vehicle integration
  • Experience with composite and metallic structure precision drilling, cutting, and assembly
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of avionic instrumentation and harness assemblies
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight-critical hardware.
