About the position

The Avionics Software Project Engineer III at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of real-time embedded software for rocket engines used in human-capable spacecraft. This position involves collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to manage project scope, budgets, and schedules while ensuring adherence to avionics development standards. The engineer will be responsible for tracking project performance, facilitating communication among stakeholders, and addressing challenges that arise during the project lifecycle, ultimately contributing to the advancement of space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Define project scope, assumptions, and constraints.
  • Develop task-based labor, material, and schedule estimates.
  • Manage project budgets.
  • Create comprehensive program planning artifacts such as integrated master plans and schedules.
  • Lead software and systems scrum meetings using Jira.
  • Track and report performance to plan and address deviations.
  • Identify and resolve or escalate blockers to team performance.
  • Generate metrics and presentations for stakeholder updates.
  • Present project information to senior leaders clearly and concisely.
  • Perform risk identification and management.
  • Lead the baseline change process.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience as a technical contributor or project engineer/technical project manager developing and testing real-time embedded systems for safety-critical applications.
  • Experience with avionics development standards such as ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-330 or similar.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills.
  • Extensive experience using Jama on an Agile development team.
  • Extensive experience using scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle from writing requirements through formal verification.
  • Ability to learn fast, multitask, and drive tasks to completion.
  • Ability to present programmatic and technical concepts to peers and leadership.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.
