About the position

The Avionics System and Integration Engineer will play a crucial role in managing systems engineering activities for the Communication Low Orbit Project (Comm LEO) at NASA Johnson Space Center. This position involves supporting engineering flight project schedules, developing requirement and verification data packages, conducting product life cycle reviews, and ensuring compliance with system requirements. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team to contribute to NASA's deep space exploration initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage systems engineering activities for the Communication Low Orbit Project (Comm LEO).
  • Support engineering flight project schedule, procurement documentation, budget, and system requirements documents.
  • Develop and support sub-project requirement and verification data packages.
  • Conduct product life cycle reviews and coordinate integration, verification, and validation activities.
  • Align requirements with hardware specifications and understand verifications.
  • Perform system engineering functions and provide user input feedback during the design process.
  • Work with ground testing and flight operations testing of hardware.
  • Review verification and validation reports for compliance with requirements.
  • Participate in system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews.
  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses.
  • Participate in test, verification, and operation of as-built hardware.
  • Identify risks, develop risk statements, and plan risk responses.
  • Present schedule and progress to customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and integration processes, methodologies, tools, and technologies.
  • Understanding of test principles, tools, and processes for developing test requirements.
  • Familiarity with concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and present verbally at meetings.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Flight Hardware and/or Flight Processes/Paperwork.
  • Experience with NASA processes.
