About the position

The AVP, Acquisition & New Grocery Development is responsible for supporting the SVP Development and Redevelopment in identifying and pursuing grocery development opportunities. This role involves a variety of tasks focused on land assemblage, contract negotiations, and site investigations, ensuring successful project execution from initial phases through to entitlements and construction support. The position requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, including local authorities and land brokers, to facilitate the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Review new grocery development opportunities nationwide.
  • Key responsibility on land assemblage, site investigation, site due diligence, and securing sites.
  • Provide construction support and manage entitlements for development projects.
  • Travel to markets to meet with sellers, brokers, JV partners, and local authorities.
  • Organize, attend, and present at zoning, permitting, or local/state jurisdiction meetings.
  • Create a library of available sites nationwide for grocery development.
  • Assist in preparing documents and information for presentations created by AVP Development.
  • Support financial modeling and development site information for contracts and site assessments.
  • Build relationships with local land brokers, developers, and municipalities.
  • Originate opportunities for grocery development, including raw land or existing retail sites.
  • Collaborate with the SVP Development/Redevelopment and AVPD on development strategies in emerging markets.
  • Collect and analyze research related to potential sites for development.
  • Assist in managing contracts and communication throughout the land acquisition and development process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; CCIM Designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in development, construction, property assemblage, contract negotiations, entitlements, finance, or transaction experience.
  • Commercial retail and/or development experience with emphasis on land assemblage and grocery development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Well-developed communication skills.
