About the position

Travelers is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our Auto Pricing team within the Personal Insurance division. This key leadership role reports to the VP of Actuarial Pricing and Risk Analytics and is responsible for the pricing and profitability monitoring of our $8 billion annual premium Auto book of business, including the pricing of the Intellidrive® 365 telematics product. The successful candidate will serve as a Regional Actuary for our State Product teams and will also oversee Claim Analytics, which includes trend analysis and earnings preparation. This position requires collaboration across the PI Data & Analytics, Reserving, and Product Management organizations to provide holistic analytics support for the business. The leader will manage a team of over 8 Actuarial and Analytics professionals, driving strategic vision development, strategy execution, and talent accountabilities. In this role, the candidate will assess, prioritize, influence, and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders, fostering an environment for effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects. The position will also involve performing and leading actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems, driving day-to-day execution within the unit, and promoting efficiency while balancing resource needs. The candidate will be expected to communicate regularly with staff, peers, business partners, and senior leaders, tailoring communication of analysis and project results to various audiences. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical and analytical skillset, with a solid understanding of insurance products and industry dynamics. They will demonstrate exceptional influencing and consulting skills, excellent communication abilities, and a strong foundation in quantitative analysis. This role also includes responsibilities for talent acquisition, retention, and development, as well as performance management and succession planning. The successful candidate will mentor less experienced talent and support recruiting efforts across the Enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Auto Pricing team and oversee pricing and profitability monitoring of the Auto book of business.
  • Serve as a Regional Actuary for State Product teams and manage Claim Analytics, including trend analysis and earnings preparation.
  • Collaborate with PI Data & Analytics, Reserving, and Product Management organizations for holistic analytics support.
  • Assess, prioritize, influence, and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
  • Drive day-to-day execution within the unit and promote efficiency across the working group.
  • Translate ambiguous business needs into analytical solutions and provide support for Enterprise initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, peers, business partners, and senior leaders, tailoring communication to the audience.
  • Manage a team of managers and individual contributors, focusing on talent acquisition, retention, and development.
  • Mentor less experienced talent and identify training and skill development needs across the Enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field required.
  • 7+ years of comprehensive quantitative analysis experience required.
  • Project or people management experience required.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Exceptional influencing and consulting skills; able to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information to senior leadership and non-technical teams.
  • Strong PC skills, particularly in MS Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • 10+ years of quantitative analysis experience preferred.
