The Lead Actuary for Select Accounts is a critical member of the Select leadership team. This position is a senior analytic leadership role that encompasses broad strategic vision development, strategy execution, and talent accountabilities. This leader is responsible for influencing strategy and driving actuarial and analytic priorities and deliverables across Select. The successful candidate will have a technical and analytical skillset, strong actuarial knowledge and critical thinking, and effective business and technical communication skills. The role includes leadership of a direct staff of 10-15, which involves oversight, management, team building, development and training, cultural advancement and engagement in line with BIAA strategies, resource prioritization and creating flexible talent opportunities. The Lead Actuary will work directly with the Small Commercial Chief Actuary to drive strategic initiatives across both Small Commercial and BIAA, serving as a member of the Small Commercial Analytics leadership team, helping drive department strategies and goals & objectives across the groups. The position requires the ability to assess, prioritize, influence and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders, fostering an environment for effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects. The Lead Actuary will perform and lead actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems, drive day-to-day execution within the unit, and promote efficiency while identifying appropriate resource needs. Communication is key, as the role involves regular interaction with staff, peers, business partners, and senior leaders, requiring proficiency in tailoring communication of analysis and project results to various audiences. Additionally, the Lead Actuary will be responsible for talent management, including acquisition, retention, and development of talent for the assigned unit, as well as performance management and succession planning.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership of a direct staff of 10-15, including oversight, management, team building, development and training.
  • Working directly with the Small Commercial Chief Actuary to drive strategic initiatives across both Small Commercial and BIAA.
  • Collaborating with business partners in finance, product management, and underwriting to influence and drive strategies.
  • Assessing, prioritizing, influencing and communicating strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
  • Performing and leading actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems and apply judgment appropriately.
  • Driving day-to-day execution within the unit and broad department initiatives.
  • Promoting efficiency and identifying appropriate resource needs across the primary working group.
  • Communicating regularly with staff, peers, business partners, and senior leaders.
  • Mentoring less experienced talent across the Enterprise and identifying training and skill development needs.

Requirements

  • College degree in STEM related field.
  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • Leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of quantitative analysis experience.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Exceptional influencing and/or consulting skills; able to build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to senior leadership and non-technical teams.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office).
  • Project or people management experience required.
