About the position

The AVP Actuary will provide actuarial support to the P&C Programs Insurance Business Unit, leading a team of actuaries to deliver insights, develop strategies, and monitor business health. This role emphasizes both quantitative and qualitative actuarial support, focusing on profitability reviews, monitoring portfolio changes, conducting actuarial studies, and tool building to enhance pricing and monitoring processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of actuaries to provide actuarial insights and support to the P&C Programs Insurance Business Unit.
  • Conduct profitability reviews and new submission analyses to determine portfolio profitability using actuarial concepts.
  • Monitor portfolio rate changes, pricing adequacy, and underwriting mix changes to guide Program Managers in decision-making.
  • Perform actuarial studies and research to improve pricing parameters and identify profitable opportunities.
  • Design, program, and maintain critical tools used in pricing and book monitoring.
  • Identify and nurture future leaders within the team, providing coaching and leadership opportunities.

Requirements

  • ACAS, FCAS, or similarly qualified professional in P&C actuarial qualifications.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in actuarial and quantitative analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers in underwriting, products, reinsurance, claims, and financials.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and VBA for tool building and advanced research.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in teaching, managing, and contributing to a positive culture.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience in a flat organizational structure with direct presentations to business unit leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business outcomes through strategic initiatives.
