About the position

The AVP, Actuarial position at Lincoln Financial provides leadership and direction to the Retirement Plan Services team, focusing on the design and execution of actuarial models and analysis. This role is pivotal in developing actuarial strategies and ensuring that the models support fact-based decision-making by management. The position requires overseeing various actuarial functions, managing projects with broad enterprise impact, and providing subject matter expertise to both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Assumption Governance, Rate Setting, and Risk Management functions.
  • Contributes to the strategy development for actuarial trends, issues, and concerns.
  • Anticipates and provides strategies/solutions to complex actuarial problems or trends.
  • Directs actuarial projects with broad impact to the enterprise, delegating work and providing appropriate levels of support and responsibility to employees.
  • Partners effectively with various levels of management and other stakeholders to generate high-quality decisions.
  • Provides guidance on the structure of actuarial models and assumption development, balancing precision and timeliness.
  • Monitors developments in the actuarial industry and translates this information into business solutions.
  • Leads the research, design, and implementation of actuarial modeling techniques and tools to support current and future business needs.
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and departmental initiatives.
  • Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, department, or business unit.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects.
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Provides strategic leadership and direction to continually improve capability and results.
  • Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained.

Requirements

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience
  • FSA designation or ASA designation with additional years of actuarial experience

Nice-to-haves
