About the position

The AVP, Application Operations and Availability at CVS Health is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the technical execution and performance of application operations. This position is part of the Technical Executive Leadership Team and focuses on maintaining system availability, performance, and resiliency. The AVP will work closely with various teams to ensure optimal resource utilization and enhance the user experience while driving improvements in processes and technologies related to system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health and performance of systems and applications, setting up alerts for issues or anomalies.
  • Respond promptly to incidents related to availability, performance, and resiliency, diagnosing root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with systems, applications, and related infrastructure to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Support and perform routine maintenance tasks such as applying patches, updates, and upgrades to ensure systems are secure and up to date.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with development teams to address recurring issues and implement improvements to prevent future incidents.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize performance and efficiency of systems and applications to meet SLAs and improve user experience.
  • Monitor resource usage and forecast future capacity requirements based on growth trends and usage patterns.
  • Manage changes to production environments, reviewing and approving change requests, coordinating deployments, and conducting post-implementation reviews.
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure systems meet security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical support to product and business groups, acting as proxies to end-users experiencing issues.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes, tools, and technologies related to availability, performance, and resiliency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in a Technology leadership position, including P&L, POA, and Site leadership.
  • 8+ years leading Technical Operations, including Datacenter operations, Disaster Recovery, Network Operations, and Multi-Cloud/Hybrid installations.
  • 5+ years leading Reliability Engineering, Performance Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years in leading Systems Engineering, including Systems Architecture and Systems Design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in leading Information Security teams.
  • MBA and financial management, budgeting, and capital planning experience.
  • Prior experience in ITIL framework.
  • AWS, Azure, GCP, and Oracle cloud experience.
