The AVP, DevOps, holds a strategic and influential position, leading the creation and implementation of DevOps, Quality Assurance, GenAI for Coding & Testing, and associated artifacts. This includes the Technology backlog, ensuring the technical direction of applications and solutions within and across business area portfolios is strongly aligned with the business strategy. Their decisions and actions significantly influence the company's technical direction. They work closely with other architects and technical leaders to ensure that technical standards, frameworks, and processes are applicable across multiple applications and business capability areas. As the AVP, DevOps, you will be at the forefront of shaping a target architecture and roadmap that are not just reactive and adaptable, but also maintainable and capable of evolving with minimum disruption and cost to support emerging technology trends. Your strategic decisions will ensure that the architecture of DevOps, CI/CD, Quality Assurance, Test Automation, and GenAI for Coding & Testing platforms is not just realized, but also informed by learning from implementing solutions, providing a stimulating environment for growth and learning. As the AVP, DevOps, you will be responsible for managing multiple executive stakeholders within business, change, and IT. This includes leading the activities of architects or technical leaders through direct or indirect reporting relationships. Your leadership and communication skills, particularly in managing and influencing multiple executive stakeholders, will be crucial in this role. As the AVP, DevOps, you are a respected thought leader in Engineering, Testing, and Software Delivery, recognized by those in Senior Leadership. Your insights are sought after to participate in strategic Enterprise discussions, a testament to the respect and recognition your role commands. Your expertise and influence in these areas will be a key asset in this role. This is a hybrid opportunity, defined as 3 days onsite per week at our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC or Atlanta, GA campus.

Responsibilities

  • Ultimately responsible for the correct implementation of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Quality Assurance, Test Automation, and GenAI for Coding & Testing, compliance, and governance.
  • Mentor Principal and Senior employees within the domain to ensure strong architecture practice and increase their skillset.
  • Manage Architects within their Domain when required.
  • Collaborates with Chief Product owners and Business Strategy Consultants to align business and technology strategies and realize business capabilities through implementing Digital Maturity and DevOps.
  • Resolves architectural uncertainties through prioritization, planning, and execution of architectural sprints and reprioritizes Technology Roadmap and portfolio backlogs based on outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Architects across the Enterprise to ensure standardized, efficient, high-quality, architecturally sound tactical implementations of technology roadmaps.
  • Responsible for design time (code coverage, complexity, etc.) and runtime (performance stability, scalability) quality of architectural designs and implemented applications and solutions across the Enterprise.
  • Further business goals through evaluating, assessing, and comparing emergent technology. This may involve prototyping, proof of concept work, and in-depth vendor engagement.
  • Coordinates or participates in tool, technology, service selection, risk assessments, and sunsetting with technical and business stakeholders, ensuring consistency with existing business needs and architectural sustainability.
  • Ensures that DevOps, Quality Assurance, and GenAI for Coding & Testing Architecture are operational, agile, measurable, and operable within Continuous Build and Deployment for internal and external implementers.
  • Coordinates identifying and assessing new and emerging hardware, software, and communication technologies, products, methods, and techniques. Evaluates their likely relevance to the organization.
  • Provides regular briefings and communications to Leadership, Management, and Staff.
  • Actively monitors for and seeks opportunities, new methods, and trends in IT capabilities and products for the advancement of the organization.
  • Stays abreast of external trends and new functionality to be released by third-party/cloud solutions, identifying and socializing opportunities for expanded business applicability. Clearly articulates and formally reports their benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelors required, or equivalent relevant experience, Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of the Azure and GitHub DevOps platforms is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Octopus Deploy, SonarQube, Veracode, and other software development tools is strongly preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Test Automation platforms is preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of GitHub Copilot or related technology is preferred.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of DevOps and Testing practices is preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of strategic issues and is an authority on the systems development life cycle and typical problems associated with implementing information systems, from initial concept through development and implementation to operation and support.
  • Has detailed practical knowledge of the organization's IT infrastructure and software development and maintenance methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Is conversant with the organization's IT strategy, policies, and standards.
  • Has a sound knowledge of risk assessment, change management, configuration management, reliability, and safety methods and metrics.
  • Is skilled in project risk management.
  • Can effectively articulate the architecture to technical and business audiences.
  • Communicates persuasively and effectively to business and technical audiences.
  • Possesses good knowledge of key areas of own organization that could benefit from applying technology.
  • Can envisage the business potential of emerging technologies and products.
  • Is current in the understanding of both developer trends and emerging technologies.
  • Has sound knowledge of Agile/Lean development methodologies and Continuous Deployment Tools and Techniques.
