About the position

The AVP of Communications at Travelers will serve as a strategic communications advisor, focusing on developing and executing communications plans that support business objectives and reinforce the company's culture. This role involves managing communications professionals, drafting and overseeing written materials, and providing counsel to executives and senior management. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective communication across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and proofread written materials for accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of enterprise-wide communications.
  • Provide strategic communication counsel to executives and senior management.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with senior leaders and colleagues to implement communications initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Manage the use of templates, best practices, and brand guidelines in communications development.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor team members on communications strategies.
  • Identify risks and recommend solutions for communications work.
  • Manage team members and develop their expertise as business partners.
  • Assist with the management of the Communications Department.

Requirements

  • Twelve years or more of experience in communications or a related field.
  • Five years of people management experience.
  • Expert writing and editing skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  • Ability to edit and proofread quickly and accurately.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary communications concepts and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of business strategies.
  • Expert subject matter knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
  • Expert presentation skills to influence senior leaders.
  • Advanced ability to lead complex communications projects.
  • Advanced ability to construct and operate within project budgets.
  • Advanced business acumen with strategic thinking across functional areas.
