About the position

The AVP, Investment Accounting will provide professional management and oversight for the investment accounting activities of the organization. This role is crucial for ensuring that both internal and external investment accounting needs are met, which includes the review and development of existing and new GAAP and statutory reports. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the implementation of new information technology and assisting with new investment accounting initiatives in collaboration with other business partners. A key aspect of this position is supporting NLG Capital in executing the investment strategy across all asset classes, with a particular emphasis on alternative investments such as private equity, private credit, and CLOs. In this role, the AVP will oversee the Investment Accounting function, which encompasses the direction of GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting for all asset classes within the Company's consolidated investment portfolio, including its subsidiaries and affiliates. This includes a wide range of financial instruments such as bonds, RMLs, CMLs, alternative investments, debt and equity securities, and private equity/private placements. The AVP will ensure accurate month-end, quarter-end, and annual reporting of balances related to investment assets, liabilities, income, and expenses on both a GAAP and statutory basis. The position requires building and maintaining external relationships with auditors, vendors, and other business partners, as well as fostering internal relationships with various lines of business, including financial reporting, tax, treasury, and investment operations. The AVP will also be responsible for developing a continuous process improvement strategy that includes automation and the implementation of new technology and reporting processes, while strengthening controls over investment accounting. Additionally, the AVP will assist management in developing key business indicators, metrics, analytic reports, and investment-related strategies, and will communicate these to business leaders and internal partners. Staying abreast of financial reporting and regulatory developments related to investment accounting is essential, as these can impact the Company and facilitate compliance with such regulations. The AVP will manage a team of investment accounting professionals, establishing and monitoring goals, reviewing work completed by the team, and ensuring proper communication of investment accounting and corporate policies, practices, and performance. Additional duties may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional management and oversight for the investment accounting activities of the organization.

  • Stay updated on financial reporting and regulatory developments related to investment accounting.
  • Manage a team of investment accounting professionals, establishing and monitoring goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 14 years of investment accounting experience and financial reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree required, concentration in accounting preferred.
  • Solid experience with US GAAP and Statutory Accounting related to investment products in the insurance industry.
  • Expertise with private credit is essential.
  • Management experience leading a team of accounting professionals is required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Proven ability to meet daily/monthly/quarterly/annual deliverables.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve financial issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
