About the position

The AVP, Portfolio Manager position at Western Alliance Bank is a critical role responsible for analyzing, structuring, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of loans for emerging growth technology companies. This position is integral to managing the credit risk associated with the loan portfolio and is part of a larger team focused on increasing market penetration within the greater New York technology ecosystem. The role involves direct interaction with clients, requiring the candidate to develop and maintain relationships while ensuring a timely credit process from initiation to closure. In this position, the AVP, Portfolio Manager will work closely with the team to interface with companies through various communication channels, including in-person meetings, virtual calls, and emails. The candidate will gather and analyze due diligence materials to present financing requests to senior management and the Loan Committee for approval. Additionally, the role includes coordinating the processing of approved loans, addressing any issues that arise during the servicing of loans, and providing exceptional customer service to clients. The AVP will also assist in onboarding new clients and managing account requests for existing clients, ensuring that all tasks related to underwriting and portfolio management are handled efficiently. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in technology underwriting, credit knowledge, and portfolio management skills, with a focus on timely identification of credit concerns. Responsibilities

  • Analyze, structure, and underwrite loans for emerging growth technology companies.
  • Coordinate the closing of major and complex loans.
  • Manage credit risk associated with the loan portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships to ensure a timely credit process.
  • Gather and analyze due diligence materials for financing requests.
  • Present financing requests to senior management and Loan Committee for approval.
  • Coordinate processing of approved loans and assist in problem-solving related to loan servicing.
  • Provide superior customer service and follow-through with customers and employees.
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and managing account requests for existing clients.
  • Handle underwriting and portfolio management tasks related to new loan requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • 1-2 years of technology underwriting experience at a financial institution.
  • Credit knowledge and underwriting skills in commercial lending.
  • Experience in financial statement analysis from prior jobs.
  • Demonstrated portfolio management skills with timely identification of credit concerns.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent multitasking abilities and self-starter attitude.
