About the position

The Product Manager at Unum serves as a business owner across all platforms for a specific customer value stream, responsible for achieving business, operational, usage, and financial goals. This role involves leading Product Owners and Agile Teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences, managing product backlogs, and influencing organizational strategy. The Product Manager plays a crucial role in business transformation by developing and delivering market-leading products and services, applying Scaled Agile methodology to ensure alignment with overall business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business and technology transformations with successful outcomes.
  • Plan and direct the organization's strategic agenda within customer value streams.
  • Manage end-to-end business and IT planning to deliver value stream goals.
  • Implement and manage Lean Management systems to focus on sustainable growth and process improvement.
  • Set up and manage the Scaled Agile Framework for a Customer Value Stream.
  • Initiate strategies to deliver a simple, modern, and personal customer experience.
  • Conduct Portfolio Assessments to ensure a high return portfolio of Epics.
  • Define new products and processes based on Portfolio Assessments.
  • Contribute to the development of the change agenda and manage change project Portfolio.
  • Supervise innovation, standardization, and optimization of products and processes.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to align offerings with strategic intent.
  • Manage cross-initiative decisions and tradeoff evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • 7+ years of product ownership, technology acumen, and change experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to partner, problem solve, and influence others.
  • Proven ability to balance distribution needs with risk management considerations.
  • Strong customer focus with a track record of using customer insights to shape product strategy.
  • Adept at analyzing competitive products and using insights to improve offerings.
  • Ability to prioritize competing opportunities and manage conflict effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects across a matrixed organization.
