About the position

The AVP - Retail Property position at Everest Insurance Company is a pivotal role within the U.S. Property team, located in Chicago. This position is designed for an experienced professional who will assist in developing a profitable book of business within the designated underwriting territory for Everest Retail Property. The selected candidate will report directly to the Regional Head of Retail Property and will play a crucial role in implementing a growth plan for the region, which includes setting goals and objectives for both the team and the region. The candidate will be responsible for marketing, production, and visibility in the region, acting as a key underwriting resource. In this role, the AVP will maintain and grow an assigned account list, generating a minimum of $10 million in Gross Written Premium (GWP) volume annually, representing a diverse array of clients. The position also offers the potential to supervise and mentor at least one employee, helping to build and expand their underwriting foundation and brokerage contacts. The AVP will act as a subject matter expert for key industry verticals and policy coverage items, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a profitable book of business within the designated underwriting territory for Everest Retail Property.
  • Implement a growth plan for the region, including setting goals and objectives for the team and the region.
  • Responsible for marketing, production, and visibility in the region, acting as a key underwriting resource.
  • Maintain and grow an assigned account list generating a minimum of $10M GWP volume annually.
  • Supervise and mentor at least one employee to build and expand their underwriting foundation and brokerage contacts.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for key industry verticals and policy coverage items.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or related field, with insurance designations a plus.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant retail property underwriting experience.
  • Demonstrated skills to support leadership with strategies for a profitable portfolio.
  • Self-motivated and independent while maintaining underwriting discipline to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in underwriting with a focus on retail property.
