About the position

ALTA IT has a Long-Term Contract position open for an AWS Cloud Developer based in Washington, DC. This role is primarily remote, with the expectation of one day a week onsite. The position requires U.S. Citizenship due to federal government sector requirements, and candidates must be able to pass a federal background check for Level 4 Public Trust Clearance. The AWS Cloud Developer will be responsible for developing cloud applications using AWS technologies, with a focus on Python for backend services and Angular or React for frontend development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cloud application development, agile methodologies, and a strong understanding of cloud technology platforms, tools, and services. The AWS Cloud Developer will lead various aspects of cloud application development, including database management, programming, cloud security, and cloud-centric integration. The role requires hands-on experience with AWS development, particularly in writing Python code and utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CDK or Terraform. Candidates should also have experience modeling business processes in AWS Step Functions and developing container-based applications that utilize REST APIs. The developer will be responsible for remediation and unit testing of code, ensuring that applications are robust and reliable during the deployment process. In addition to technical skills, the candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of AWS services, including AWS CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail for logging and auditing in a regulated environment. Experience with database development, data migration, and building data lakes using AWS Glue, Athena, and Redshift is also essential. The AWS Cloud Developer will implement granular access security for databases and data lakes, integrating with identity management solutions like Okta and Cognito. Responsibilities

  • Develop cloud applications using AWS technologies, focusing on Python for backend and Angular or React for frontend development.
  • Lead database management, programming, cloud security, and cloud-centric integration efforts.
  • Write and maintain Python code along with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK or Terraform.
  • Model business processes in AWS Step Functions and develop container-based applications utilizing REST APIs.
  • Conduct remediation and unit testing of code during the application development and deployment process.
  • Utilize AWS CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail for logging events and audit messages in a regulated environment.
  • Implement database and data lake granular access security, integrating with Okta and Cognito.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to federal government sector requirements.
  • Ability to pass a federal background check for Level 4 Public Trust Clearance.
  • Extensive experience in AWS cloud application development.
  • Proficiency in Python for backend services and Angular or React for frontend development.
  • Expert knowledge in cloud technology platforms, tools/services, DevOps, and database management.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK or Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS development and GovCloud development is helpful.
  • Functional knowledge of Docker and experience writing AWS Lambda functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Python code development and workflow design using Airflow.
  • Knowledge of designing Glue jobs using Python Shell and PySpark.
  • Experience with SNS/SQL implementation techniques and event triggering (e.g., EventBridge).
  • Understanding of logging in AWS and experience with database development and data migration (Postgres and Redshift).
  • Experience in building/accessing Data Lakes using Glue/Athena/Redshift.
