About the position

The AWS Cloud Solutions Engineer is a critical role responsible for the migration and management of large-scale systems to the AWS Cloud environment. This position involves analyzing user requirements and procedures to effectively migrate, modify, and support existing systems. The engineer will review system-wide capabilities and workflows to ensure efficient management and security of these systems, particularly focusing on the Arkansas Integrate Revenue System Tax (AIRS Tax) and Driver Services/Motor Vehicle (AIRS DSMV) COTS systems, which are being transitioned from an on-premise data center to the AWS Cloud. In this role, the engineer will provide primary operational support and engineering for the public cloud platform, focusing on debugging and optimizing systems while automating routine tasks. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and implementing workload migrations from on-premises to AWS Cloud, as well as configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the infrastructure environment within AWS. The engineer will also be tasked with configuring and tuning various AWS services such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Guard Duty, and Security Hub, among others. The AWS Cloud Solutions Engineer will set up and maintain essential components like Gateway Load Balancer, Internet Gateway, and VPCs across different Availability Zones. They will also implement backup solutions using AWS native services, including EC2 instances and S3 storage types, and will be responsible for automating and monitoring AWS CloudWatch alarms for system health checks. Additionally, the engineer will design and maintain executive-level dashboards for system utilization, health, and cost management. Security is a paramount concern, and the engineer will set up and maintain security measures using tools like AWS Guard, IAM, and CrowdStrike, ensuring compliance with various frameworks such as Pub 1075, PII, and NIST. Collaboration with other IT resources and vendors is essential to resolve application and infrastructure-related issues, and maintaining technical documentation of the AWS environment is also a key responsibility. The engineer will participate in the selection of new technologies while adhering to departmental IT and security standards, and will communicate effectively with management, co-workers, and business partners.
