About the position

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is seeking a Senior AWS Cloud SysOps/DevOps Engineer to support cloud infrastructure automation initiatives for NASA's flagship Space Telescope missions. This role involves leveraging DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines to implement robust automation and monitoring systems for AWS cloud applications, contributing to the operations of significant space observatories like the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain secure cloud architectures, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions for Identity & Access Management (IAM) to improve automation and efficiency.
• Build and review IAM assets, including policies for application and DevOps teams.
• Analyze, tune, and plan capacity for STScI's systems in AWS, recommending technology improvements and cost optimizations.
• Perform complex analysis to support operating systems, software, databases, and security standards.
• Lead administration and systems management with automation, including Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) and containers.
• Proactively monitor AWS resources and develop automated event-based response systems.
• Build, deploy, and support automation for cloud instances and container frameworks.
• Manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Work with AWS support engineers to identify and resolve issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of extensive experience in IT, DevOps, or application development with hands-on AWS cloud infrastructure management.

Nice-to-haves
