About the position

The AWS Database Administrator (DBA) at Experient is responsible for managing and optimizing databases on the AWS platform, specifically focusing on Postgres, Redshift, and DynamoDB. This role involves leading a small team of engineers, ensuring database performance, implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies, and collaborating with development and operations teams to design effective database solutions. The ideal candidate will possess both technical expertise and strong leadership skills, contributing to a supportive and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Postgres, Redshift and DynamoDB databases on AWS.
• Optimize database performance through configuration tuning, index optimization, and query optimization.
• Implement and manage database backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Monitor database health and performance metrics, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to design and implement database solutions that meet performance and scalability requirements.
• Stay updated on AWS database technologies and best practices, recommending and implementing improvements as necessary.
• Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Lead a small team of 1-2 engineers, providing technical guidance and coaching.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 7-10 years of proven experience as a DBA, specifically in AWS environments.
• Proficiency in managing Postgres, Redshift, and DynamoDB databases.
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning techniques and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Self-starter to learn on own.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• AWS certification(s) such as AWS Certified Database Specialty is a plus.
