About the position

SAIC is seeking a highly skilled AWS Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize Oracle and Postgres databases, as well as AWS managed databases like RDS, Aurora, and Redshift. The role focuses on ensuring database performance, availability, and security, with responsibilities including database management, performance tuning, failover and recovery, migration, and data warehousing.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for database security and integrity.
  • Monitor database performance and apply changes, patches, and versions for optimal performance.
  • Design and execute database backup and recovery strategies, including failover planning and testing.
  • Lead migration projects from on-premises databases to AWS, including planning, execution, and validation.
  • Ensure database security measures are in place, including access controls and audit logging.
  • Manage and optimize AWS Redshift instances and other data warehousing solutions.
  • Utilize AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to ensure database health and performance.
  • Provide high-level support for complex database issues, including troubleshooting and resolving integrity, performance, and replication issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 9 years' experience; Master's degree and 7 years' experience.
  • Proven experience as a DBA with expertise in Oracle and Postgres databases.
  • Extensive experience with AWS database services, including Aurora, RDS, and Redshift.
  • Solid experience in database failover, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with migrating on-premises databases to AWS.
  • Proficient in SQL, database design, and data modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS or relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Professional).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks.
  • Deep familiarity with database monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch.
  • Experience with data warehouse design, implementation, and optimization, for example, AWS Redshift.
