About the position

The AWS Dedicated Cloud Engineer position within Team Mercury at Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. offers an exciting opportunity to engage with cutting-edge cloud computing technologies while addressing complex technical challenges faced by U.S. Government agencies. This role is pivotal in implementing innovative cloud solutions and ensuring operational excellence within the AWS Intelligence team, which is dedicated to supporting the U.S. Intelligence Community. The team is responsible for building and maintaining some of the largest and most intricate distributed systems globally, requiring adaptable engineers who can think critically and simplify complex problems to enhance customer experiences. In this role, engineers will be tasked with troubleshooting complex system operations, leveraging their understanding of Linux, networking, and cloud services. A typical day may involve deep dives to identify the root causes of customer issues, analyzing metrics that are trending negatively, or brainstorming innovative automation strategies to streamline operational processes. The AWS Commerce Platform, which Team Mercury supports, encompasses several hundred production services and pipelines, and the Denver team plays a crucial role in managing a subset of these services that significantly impact the platform's functionality. Candidates must possess an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph, as the position involves working closely with government agencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems administration, scripting, and cloud computing technologies, along with a commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex system operations and ensure operational excellence.
  • Investigate customer issues to determine root causes and implement solutions.
  • Analyze metrics and performance trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Automate routine operational tasks to enhance efficiency.
  • Support several hundred production services and pipelines within the AWS Commerce Platform.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or relevant certifications (Cloud+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
  • 3+ years of systems administration experience (Linux/Windows).
  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years experience with cloud computing technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments.
  • Experience automating routine tasks.
