About the position

As a Cloud Solutions Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Infrastructure Production Management, you will play a crucial role in the Infrastructure Engineering and Enablement Team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to impact your career while pushing the limits of what's possible in cloud technology. You will be responsible for making strategic decisions regarding Public Cloud onboarding and migration, which will significantly affect our global customers, clients, and businesses. Your expertise in public cloud migrations of intricate systems, foreseeing potential issues, and devising ways to mitigate risks will be instrumental in spearheading numerous public cloud initiatives. You will promote key pillars such as platform modernization, technology life cycle management, security, performance testing, resiliency, and automation. In this role, you will drive, support, and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon's utility computing web services, including AWS EC2, AWS S3, AWS RDS, AWS CloudFront, AWS EFS, CloudWatch, and EKS. You will design resilient, secure, and high-performing platforms in the Public Cloud using JPMorgan Chase best practices. Your responsibilities will also include improving the reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions moving to the public cloud. You will measure and optimize system performance, ensuring that we stay ahead of customer needs and continually innovate to improve our offerings. Additionally, you will provide primary operational support and engineering for the public cloud platform, debugging and optimizing systems while automating routine tasks. Collaboration with a cross-functional team will be essential to develop real-world solutions and create positive user experiences at every interaction. You will also drive work streams to ensure applications meet strict non-functional requirements for Public Cloud onboarding and manage costs through effective design and optimization of public cloud platforms and technologies. Organizing and running game days, resiliency tests, and chaos engineering exercises will be part of your responsibilities, along with utilizing various programming languages and AWS tools and services.

Responsibilities

  • Drive, support, and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon's utility computing web services (e.g., AWS EC2, AWS S3, AWS RDS, AWS CloudFront, AWS EFS, CloudWatch, EKS)
  • Design resilient, secure, and high performing platforms in Public Cloud using JPMC best practices
  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions moving to public cloud
  • Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve
  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for the public cloud platform and debug and optimize systems and automate routine tasks
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences at every interaction
  • Drive work streams to ensure Applications meet strict non-functional requirements for Public Cloud On-boarding
  • Drive Cost management through the effective design and optimization of public cloud platforms and technologies
  • Organize and run game days, resiliency tests and chaos engineering exercises
  • Utilize programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • 8+ years in a technical development or lead role
  • Candidates must be certified with AWS Solutions Architect Associate / Professional
  • A strong understanding of business technology drivers and their impact on architecture design, performance and monitoring, best practices
  • Design and building web environments on AWS, which includes working with services like EC2, ELB, RDS, and S3
  • Experience using DevOps tools in a cloud environment, such as Ansible, Artifactory, Docker, GitHub, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Maven, and Sonar Qube
  • Experience using monitoring solutions like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk
  • Knowledge of writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Experience with high volume, mission critical applications and their interdependencies with other applications and databases
  • Experience with high volume, mission critical applications, and building upon messaging and or event-driven architectures
  • Keen understanding of financial and budget management, control and optimization of Public Cloud expenses

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with one or more public cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure
  • Experience with distributed storage technologies like NFS, HDFS, S3
  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks
  • SRE mindset Culture/Approaches: To run better production systems by creating engineering solutions to operational problems
  • Experience of Agile delivery and tools including Kanban framework
