About the position

The Azure Cloud Engineer position at Apex Systems is a senior-level role that requires extensive experience in designing and testing Azure Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) integrated with Enterprise Azure Cloud Services (EACS). This hybrid remote position is based in Washington, DC, and involves working closely with the Department of State's Information Resources Management bureau as part of the Enterprise Security Operations Center (ESOC). The role demands a high level of technical expertise and the ability to lead cloud projects effectively. As an Azure Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, designing, and deploying enterprise-level cloud-based solutions that encompass hosting, backup, off-site data replication, and service level capacity solutions. You will also be tasked with testing Microsoft local services support on Stack HCI, which includes print services, domain controllers, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) if available. Additionally, you will validate network connectivity performance, data transfer performance, and key Azure services to ensure optimal functionality. In this role, you will act as the technical team lead for various cloud projects, providing Tier III support to deployed systems and assisting in the development of enterprise policies and directives. You will conduct Technical Exchange Meetings and create essential documentation such as test plans, installation guides, technical specifications, and white papers as required. Regular communication with government Points of Contact (POCs) regarding project activities and status updates is also a critical aspect of this position. Candidates must be willing to travel within the Washington DC Metro area to support various program initiatives and maintain a rotational on-call posture after normal working hours to respond to technical support requests. Occasional travel within and outside the continental United States may be required, but it will not exceed 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the duties and responsibilities as a member of the ESOC at the DOS Information Resources Management bureau.
  • Architect, design, and deploy enterprise-level cloud-based solutions for hosting, backup, off-site data replication and service level capacity solutions.
  • Test Microsoft local services support on Stack HCI such as print services, domain controllers, VDI (if available) and validation of network connective performance, data transfer performance, and key Azure Services.
  • Act as the technical team lead for cloud projects.
  • Support the implementation of Azure hardware and operating systems solutions to provide hosting services to multiple sites.
  • Provide Tier III support to deployed systems.
  • Assist in the development of Enterprise policies and directives.
  • Conduct Technical Exchange Meetings.
  • Create test plans, installation guides, technical specifications, white papers as required.
  • Communicate regularly to government POCs regarding project activities and status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years or more experience; Master's degree and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience. Additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Top Secret Clearance Required.
