About the position

The Azure Cloud Engineer position is a remote contractor role based in the United States, focusing on leveraging cloud technologies to enhance organizational efficiency and security. The role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft Azure and related cloud products, as well as experience with various Microsoft server environments. The engineer will be responsible for implementing and managing cloud solutions, ensuring optimal performance, and providing support for cloud-based applications and services. This position also involves working with backup and recovery solutions, particularly Veeam, to safeguard data integrity and availability. In addition to cloud management, the Azure Cloud Engineer will utilize their expertise in Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy to manage user access and security policies effectively. The role demands proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and system management tasks. The engineer will also be expected to monitor system performance using tools like Microsoft SCOM and SCCM, ensuring that all systems are running smoothly and efficiently. Networking skills are essential, as the engineer will need to configure and troubleshoot network settings, including DHCP and DNS, to maintain connectivity and performance across cloud and on-premises environments. The position requires extensive experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) and Federation practices, including ADFS and SAML 2.0, to facilitate secure access to applications. Familiarity with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access Policies is also crucial, as these technologies are integral to maintaining security in cloud environments. The Azure Cloud Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring that the organization’s cloud infrastructure is secure, efficient, and aligned with best practices in cloud management.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues using Microsoft SCOM and SCCM.
  • Manage user access and security policies through Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Utilize PowerShell scripting for automation and system management tasks.
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking settings including DHCP and DNS.
  • Implement backup and recovery solutions, particularly using Veeam.
  • Ensure compliance with security practices including SSO, Federation, MFA, and Conditional Access Policies.

Requirements

  • Expert level experience with Microsoft Azure and Office 365 Suite.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Servers (2016, 2012 R2, 2008 R2).
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Strong scripting skills, predominantly in PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based and local backup & recovery software, with Veeam as a plus.
  • Experience with systems monitoring tools, preferably Microsoft SCOM and SCCM.
  • Networking skills including DHCP, DNS, and network routing & switching protocols.
  • Extensive experience with SSO and Federation practices, including ADFS and SAML 2.0.
  • Familiarity with Multi-Factor Authentication and Conditional Access Policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SharePoint and Teams / Skype for Business.
  • Knowledge of API-based technologies.
