About the position

The Systems Operations, Cloud Engineer position at Apogee Engineering involves providing support for the Army Analytics Group (AAG) by managing and maintaining a cloud infrastructure that serves various applications for the Department of Defense (DOD). This role focuses on designing compliant system architectures, automating deployment processes, and ensuring security and performance of cloud services. The position is fully remote with minimal travel requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cloud-based solutions that meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.
  • Create architecture diagrams and deployment plans for Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Provision and configure Azure resources such as Virtual Machines (VMs), Virtual Networks, and Storage accounts.
  • Automate deployment processes using tools like Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, or PowerShell scripts.
  • Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps.
  • Implement security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM) using Azure Active Directory (AD).
  • Monitor and configure network security groups, firewalls, and encryption methods.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant security standards and regulations.
  • Monitor Azure resources for performance issues using tools like Azure Monitor and Azure Application Insights.
  • Analyze and optimize cost efficiency by managing resource utilization and implementing cost-saving measures.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery plans are in place, including backups and failover mechanisms.
  • Provide technical support for Azure infrastructure, including diagnosing and resolving issues.
  • Work closely with development and operations teams to ensure smooth cloud operations.
  • Respond to incidents and outages, performing root cause analysis.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of cloud architecture, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience with cloud services, particularly Azure, AWS GovCloud, or milCloud.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture and deployment best practices.
  • Proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform, PowerShell, or Azure Resource Manager templates.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments, including IAM and network security configurations.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Azure DevOps.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with DISA and Army compliance requirements.
  • Experience in troubleshooting cloud infrastructure issues.
  • Knowledge of performance monitoring tools like Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
